Digital trade finance network Contour announces appointment of Samuel Mathew to its Board of Directors

Contour, the leading digital trade finance network, has named Samuel Mathew to the company’s Board.

Samuel is Global Head of Flow and Financial Institution Trade at Standard Chartered and has over 25 years of transaction banking experience with leading banks. Since joining Standard Chartered in 2004, he has assumed various leadership positions in transaction banking, including Global Head of Documentary Trade, Regional Head of Sales – ASEAN for local corporates and commodity clients and Global Head of Trade Solutions Structuring.

Samuel is also the Asia Council Co-Chair for The Bankers Association for Finance and Trade (BAFT), and a Vice-Chair of Steering Group of The International Chamber of Commerce Banking Commission (ICC).

Standard Chartered is one of the founding members of Contour. In January 2020, Standard Chartered invested in Contour, following the fintech’s transition into live production and the appointment of CEO, Carl Wegner.

Samuel Mathew, Global Head of Flow and Financial Institution Trade at Standard Chartered, commented: “Having been involved in the very initial days of Contour’s product roadmap design in my role at Standard Chartered, I’m proud of what the network has achieved so far and am excited to play an even greater role by representing the Bank on the Contour board. I look forward to bringing my trade and industry experience to the table, as Contour looks to commercialise its digital trade solutions at scale and build a future roadmap for the business.”

Carl Wegner, CEO of Contour, added: “We are pleased to welcome Samuel to Contour’s board. He has been a strong supporter of Contour since the start and his deep expertise in the trade finance industry will be critical as we continue to strengthen our offering and set new industry standards for the digitisation of trade finance.”
